Description

Comnet CWFE1005POES-M Commercial-Grade 100Mbps Media Converter

Overview

The CWFE1005POES-M is a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet-to-fiber media converter designed to extend surveillance network runs over single-mode fiber while injecting 48V PoE power to remote cameras or edge devices. This solves the distance and electromagnetic isolation problem: when your camera is more than 300 feet from your core switch (coax degradation limit), or when you need to break ground loops between buildings, fiber + PoE injection lets you power and signal a remote node without running separate electrical circuits. The 30-watt PoE output (IEEE 802.3at) covers most IP cameras and small edge sensors; the ST single-mode connector and included 48V DC power supply handle the physical integration.

Compatibility

The CWFE1005POES-M accepts any standard RJ-45 Ethernet input (10/100 Mbps) and converts to single-mode fiber on the TX/RX pair. On the remote end, mate it to a second fiber-to-Ethernet converter (with PoE pass-through or injector) to restore RJ-45 connectivity and power at the camera. Works with any IP camera or network device rated for 48V PoE input — Axis, Hikvision, Uniview, and generic ONVIF-compliant cameras all support IEEE 802.3at standard. Verify your remote device's PoE input voltage and wattage requirements before deployment; the 30W limit excludes high-power PTZ heads or multi-sensor arrays drawing over 25W.

Installation Notes

Single-mode fiber requires careful handling: ST connectors must mate squarely to avoid back-reflection and signal loss. Plan runs on conduit or aerial span with bend-radius limits (typically 2–3 inches minimum for SM fiber). The included 48V power supply connects to the converter's barrel jack; ensure your fiber run does not exceed 20 km (typical commercial surveillance distances stay well below this). Test continuity and insertion loss before final camera connection to catch connector or splice faults early.
