The Axis Q1972-E (model 03029-001) is a fixed thermal bullet camera built for perimeter defense, fence monitoring, and critical infrastructure surveillance where darkness and adverse weather eliminate conventional visible-light cameras. The uncooled microbolometer sensor captures the 8–14 μm infrared spectrum at 640x480 VGA resolution with sub-20mK NETD sensitivity — meaning it detects subtle temperature differentials (a warm intruder against a cold background) without the visible light dependency that defeats other cameras in complete darkness. Deploys on building facades, elevated mounts, and fence lines where you need 24/7 thermal imagery with minimal false-positive motion alerts.
Compatibility
The Q1972-E 03029-001 integrates into any ONVIF-compliant video management system. It streams H.265 and H.264 video over standard IP networks, supports multiple bitrate profiles (VBR, ABR, MBR) across up to 20 configurable streams, and connects via PoE Class 3 power delivery — no separate PSU required. Recorded data exports to microSD storage (local backup) or streams to central NVRs and cloud archival platforms. Pairs with Axis perimeter analytics (Perimeter Defender, VMD) for automated intrusion detection and threat alerting without additional edge processing hardware.
Installation Notes
Mount via wall or ceiling brackets (ceiling pendant-style installation supported). The fixed 19mm F1.0 athermalized lens delivers a 31° horizontal, 24° vertical field of view — calculate thermal coverage distance carefully; thermal resolution degrades beyond mid-range, so position for fence-line or close-perimeter defense rather than long-distance scanning. The 2.8m integrated IR distance is a supplemental thermal boost in very cold scenes, not a primary illuminator. IP66 weatherproofing and IK10 impact resistance handle outdoor rain, dust, and vandalism attempts. PoE power draw does not exceed Class 3 limits; confirm your PoE switch can deliver 13W per port. Operating range −40°C to 60°C; verify site conditions do not fall outside this window.
