The AP9871 is a 12-foot (3.66 m) replacement or extension power cord from APC by Schneider Electric, fitted with a NEMA L6-20P locking plug. That twist-lock connector means once it's seated, it won't vibrate loose — critical in raised-floor data centers, network closets, and equipment rooms where a dropped connection means downtime. At 12 feet, it gives you enough slack to route cleanly from floor-mounted PDUs to rack-mounted UPS units without forcing tight bends that stress conductors over time. The AP9871 is rated for operation from 0 to 45 °C, covering virtually every conditioned indoor equipment space.
Compatibility
The NEMA L6-20P input plug is a 20A, 250V locking connector — verify your PDU, UPS, or in-line power device has a matching NEMA L6-20R receptacle before ordering. This connector type is standard on many APC by Schneider Electric rack PDUs and UPS units in the Smart-UPS and Symmetra families, as well as third-party 240V-input rack power distribution equipment. It is not compatible with NEMA 5-series (120V) receptacles or IEC C13/C19 outlets — those require different cord models in the APC power distribution accessories line. If you are wiring a network switch rack or surveillance NVR enclosure that draws from 208/240V PDU rails, this cord is the correct bridging piece between the PDU output and a downstream device with an L6-20R inlet.
Installation Notes
The NEMA L6-20P connector locks by inserting and rotating clockwise until it seats — no tools required, but confirm the mating receptacle is de-energized before connecting. Storage and transport are rated to -25 to 65 °C with up to 95% relative humidity (non-condensing), so field storage in unconditioned staging areas is acceptable short-term. Rated operating elevation reaches 10,000 feet, covering high-altitude data center deployments without derating concerns. Route the cord away from sharp edges and avoid kinking — a cable management arm or horizontal manager keeps the 12-foot length organized in a two-post or four-post rack. Do not exceed the 20A circuit rating of the L6-20P connector; confirm upstream breaker sizing matches before commissioning.
