Description

APC by Schneider Electric AP9873 NEMA 5-20P to IEC 320 C19 Power Cord

Overview

The AP9873 is an 8.2-foot (2.5m) power cord that bridges a NEMA 5-20P plug to an IEC 320 C19 inlet, rated for 20A at 100–120VAC, 50/60 Hz. It is the correct cable when you need to connect a North American 20A wall outlet or UPS output receptacle to a high-draw C19 device — such as a rack PDU, server, or network appliance requiring a locking C19 feed rather than the lighter C13 connector. The 8.2-foot run gives enough slack for standard rack-to-outlet distances without excessive cable management overhead.

Compatibility

The AP9873 is designed for use with APC Switched and Metered Rack PDUs that feature C19 inlet connectors, as well as APC Smart-UPS and Symmetra models whose output receptacles include NEMA 5-20R sockets. On the device side, any equipment with an IEC 320 C19 inlet drawing up to 20A on a 100–120VAC circuit is a valid load — this includes APC AP7900-series and AP8900-series rack PDUs, select APC Back-UPS Pro and Smart-UPS units, and third-party rack servers or switches specifying a C19 feed. Verify your PDU or UPS output socket type (5-20R vs 5-15R vs L5-20R) before ordering; this cord requires a NEMA 5-20R receptacle and will not seat in a twist-lock L5-20 outlet.

Installation Notes

Confirm the upstream circuit breaker or UPS bank is rated for at least 20A before deploying this cord — the NEMA 5-20P plug is keyed for 20A circuits and will not insert into a standard 15A NEMA 5-15R outlet, which is the correct safety behavior. Route away from sharp edges or high-heat exhaust zones in the rack. No tools are required for connection; both the NEMA 5-20P and IEC C19 connectors are hand-seated. Maximum continuous load should not exceed 80% of the 20A rating (16A) per standard electrical derating practice for continuous loads.
