Overview

The Middle Atlantic EWR-8-17 is an 8-space (8U) wall-mount rack enclosure from the Middle Atlantic EWR series, built for AV and security equipment installations where floor space is unavailable or impractical. At 17 inches deep with 15 inches of usable depth, the EWR-8-17 accommodates standard 1U and 2U rack-mount components — NVRs, PoE switches, patch panels, and similar gear common in network video recorder deployments. The enclosure pivots away from the wall, which matters during commissioning and service: you can access rear cabling without dismounting the unit. Eight rack units of usable height (14 inches usable) handles a typical small-site stack — an NVR, a managed PoE switch, and a UPS module without crowding. Finish is black wrinkle powder coat; no front door is included, which keeps cost down in low-visibility utility spaces like server closets or back-of-house security rooms. UL-listed load capacity is 150 lbs — sufficient for dense 1U and 2U rackmount hardware without reinforcement concerns. TAA-compliant for government and federally funded deployments.

Compatibility

The EWR-8-17 accepts any standard 19-inch rackmount equipment using 10-32 threaded rack rails — the industry-standard thread for 1U and 2U commercial gear. Compatible rackmount categories include: 1U/2U NVRs (Hanwha, Hikvision, Axis, i-PRO), 1U managed PoE switches (Axis D8004, Ubiquiti US-8-150W, similar 19-inch form factors), 1U patch panels, and 1U UPS modules up to the 150 lb aggregate load limit. The 15-inch usable depth fits most 1U rackmount hardware; verify chassis depth before installing equipment exceeding 14 inches. Blank panels and rack accessories following EIA-310-D 19-inch standards are compatible.

Installation Notes

Wall attachment is to studs or rated blocking — the 150 lb UL load rating assumes a properly anchored wall mount, not drywall anchors alone. Usable height is 14 inches (8U at 1.75 inches per unit); plan your rack layout before mounting to avoid rework. No front door means cable management and appearance depend on how equipment is dressed.
