Description

ATEN CS18208 8-Port USB 4K HDMI KVM Switch

Overview

The ATEN CS18208 is a rackmount 8-port KVM switch that consolidates control of up to 8 servers or workstations through a single USB keyboard, mouse, and HDMI display. It supports 4096 x 2160 at 60Hz — true 4K output without downscaling — making it the right fit for engineering workstations, broadcast racks, and secure server rooms where operators need full-resolution visibility on each connected machine. Cascade up to 512 ports total across a tiered installation, so the CS18208 can anchor a multi-rack deployment without requiring a full KVM matrix.

Compatibility

Connects to any host with a standard USB HID keyboard and mouse interface. HDMI video requires a host GPU or server iDRAC/BMC card outputting HDMI at up to 4096 x 2160. The two front-panel USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports (5 Gbps) pass through to the active host, supporting USB storage, CAC readers, or other peripherals without breaking into the KVM chain. RS-232 command control integrates with serial automation controllers, DCIM platforms, and data center management software that issue port-switch commands programmatically. Compatible with ATEN CS18216 in cascaded configurations (shared firmware package cs18208-cs18216-v1.2.111.zip confirms interoperability).

Installation Notes

Designed for rack mount deployment — measure 1U clearance before ordering. Port selection is available via four independent methods: on-screen display (OSD), hotkey sequences, front-panel pushbutton, or RS-232 commands; all four are active simultaneously so operators and automation systems can switch without conflicts. Auto-scan interval is configurable from 0 to 255 seconds (default 5 seconds), useful for NOC monitoring workflows. Keep ambient humidity below 80% RH non-condensing. Firmware recovery uses a dedicated slide switch on the unit — no software access required if a flash goes wrong. Current firmware is v1.2.111 (released 2025-10-28).
