ATEN KX9980T 5K Dual Display KVM Over IP Transmitter

Overview

The KX9980T is the transmitter half of ATEN's KVM over IP extension system, purpose-built for workstations and control-room nodes that drive two high-resolution DisplayPort displays simultaneously. At up to 2×5120×2880 @ 30Hz or 2×5120×1440 @ 60Hz, it handles the pixel throughput that broadcast, simulation, and trading-floor deployments demand — and the sub-1ms latency keeps mouse and keyboard response imperceptible over IP. USB keyboard and mouse are connected locally at the transmitter; a single PS/2 Female (Purple) control port and one Remote (Green) port complete the local interface. The KX9980T pairs with the corresponding ATEN KVM over IP receiver unit within the KX9980 system — deploy it wherever the source workstation lives, run the IP link across your existing network infrastructure, and control from any receiver endpoint on the segment.

Compatibility

The KX9980T is designed for use within the ATEN KX9980 KVM over IP platform. It requires a compatible ATEN KX-series KVM over IP receiver at the remote end. Video source must output DisplayPort at one of the supported resolutions: 2×5120×2880 @ 30Hz, 2×5120×1440 @ 60Hz, 2×4096×2160 @ 60Hz, 2×2560×1440 @ 144Hz, or 2×1920×1080 @ 240Hz — giving you flexibility from 4K/UHD production monitors down to high-refresh 1080p esports or simulation displays. USB HID peripherals (keyboard, mouse) connect at the transmitter end. Verify your host GPU supports dual DP at the resolution and refresh rate you intend to use; the transmitter passes through whatever the source generates, so a GPU that caps at 4K/60 per port will not produce 5K output regardless of transmitter capability.

Installation Notes

Rack-mount form factor — size the rack unit allocation before ordering. Two power switches are present on the unit; confirm dual-feed power availability if you intend to use both. Operating humidity is 0–95% RH non-condensing, so a climate-controlled rack environment is required — do not deploy in open warehouse or loading-dock enclosures without appropriate housing. Firmware v2.2.213 (released 2026-05-04) is the current shipping build; update via the downloadable package if your unit ships on an earlier build.
