Overview

The HPE 453154-B21 is an SFP (mini-GBIC) transceiver that brings copper 1000BASE-T connectivity to HPE BladeSystem c-Class Virtual Connect modules — the right pick when you need to extend blade server network connections over existing Cat5e/6/6a cabling rather than pulling fiber. At 1W power draw, it adds negligible load to the blade enclosure's power budget. The 453154-B21 operates at 1310nm and supports full-duplex Gigabit Ethernet at distances up to 100m (328 ft), which covers most data center row-to-row and top-of-rack runs without a media converter in the path.

Compatibility

Designed specifically for HPE BladeSystem c-Class enclosures running Virtual Connect modules. Compatible with Virtual Connect Ethernet and Flex-10 modules that accept SFP-format transceivers. Cable requirements: Cat5e minimum, Cat6 or Cat6a recommended for margin at full 100m distance. This transceiver is HPE-specific — it is not a generic SFP and is not validated for non-HPE switching platforms. If your environment uses fiber uplinks or runs beyond 100m, you will need a different transceiver variant.

Installation Notes

Insert into any open SFP port on a compatible Virtual Connect module with the enclosure powered. No tools required for transceiver seating — the SFP latch locks mechanically. Terminate the RJ-45 end to a patch panel or structured cabling plant rated Cat5e or better. Verify cable segment length does not exceed 100m (328 ft) including patch cords on both ends; longer runs will cause link instability at Gigabit speeds. Power draw is 1W — no derating or special slot placement needed in standard c-Class enclosures.
