The ATEN SN3402P is a 2-port RS-232/422/485 serial device server that bridges legacy serial equipment to a 10/100 Ethernet network — the right fit when you need to integrate serial-based access controllers, PLCs, or industrial devices into an IP infrastructure without replacing the endpoints. Two independently configurable ports (color-coded Green/Orange) let you run mixed serial protocols on a single unit, reducing the number of nodes on your cable runs. Built-in 1.5 kV magnetic isolation on the network port protects both the SN3402P and connected serial gear from ground loops and surge events common in industrial and security installations.
The SN3402P works with any RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 serial device — typical targets include ATEN serial console servers, legacy access control panels, serial-port IP cameras, industrial controllers, and serial POS terminals. Linux hosts are supported via the Real TTY driver (v1.1.101). The unit integrates into standard serial device server deployments and is part of the broader ATEN connectivity line. For rack-consolidated installs, the optional VE-RMK1U rack mounting kit (sold separately) mounts the SN3402P in a 1U rack space alongside other ATEN devices. If you are deploying multiple serial nodes across a wiring closet, pair with a PoE switch to eliminate separate power runs to each unit.
Power is flexible: the SN3402P accepts 9VDC via DC jack (power adapter sold separately), 9–48VDC via 3-pole terminal block (useful where 12V or 24V panel power is already present), or 48VDC PoE via RJ-45 (IEEE 802.3af) — drawing under 13W, so it won't strain a standard af switch port budget. Desktop, wall, DIN-rail, and rack mounting are all supported; DIN-rail is the most practical option in control panel enclosures. Operate between 5–95% RH non-condensing. The semi-recessed reset pushbutton prevents accidental resets in high-vibration environments. Firmware v1.0.087 (released 2025-11-13) applies to both SN3401/SN3401P and SN3402/SN3402P families — confirm the correct firmware ZIP before flashing. Review the full serial networking accessories selection if you need additional port counts or protocol converters.
