The SN3401 is a single-port serial-to-Ethernet device server that bridges RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 serial equipment onto a standard 10/100 IP network. It targets integrators who need to remotely manage or monitor legacy serial devices — access controllers, PTZ camera receivers, industrial controllers, or serial-port security panels — without running dedicated serial cabling back to a head-end. The SN3401 handles that translation at the edge, making the serial device addressable over TCP/IP as if it were a native network endpoint. Linux Real TTY driver support (v1.1.101) means the host OS can address the device as a virtual COM port, keeping existing software stacks intact without rewriting serial application logic.
Designed to work with any RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 serial device presenting a standard DB9 or terminal-block interface. The single port (Green/Orange indicator) supports the full ATEN ATEN serial networking line, and the unit integrates into deployments alongside other serial device servers for multi-port expansion. For rack consolidation, the optional VE-RMK1U 1U rack mounting kit (sold separately) allows panel-mounting alongside other ATEN serial or KVM infrastructure. Power input accepts either a 9VDC DC jack (100–240VAC adapter included) or a 9–48VDC terminal block, making it compatible with both standard AC-powered IT closets and DC-bus industrial or access control panel enclosures running 12V or 24V rails. The built-in 1.5 kV magnetic isolation on the network port protects against ground loops common in mixed IT/OT environments — relevant when the serial device and the switch are on separate electrical panels.
Four mounting options are supported: desktop, wall, DIN-rail, and rack (rack requires VE-RMK1U, sold separately). Operating humidity range is 5–95% RH non-condensing — suitable for climate-controlled equipment rooms and light-industrial spaces, but not exposed outdoor enclosures. The semi-recessed reset pushbutton prevents accidental factory resets in panel installations. Firmware is field-upgradeable; current release is v1.0.087 (2025-11-13), delivered as a zip package for manual application. When deploying on a PoE switch infrastructure, note the SN3401 requires its own power input — it does not draw PoE from the network port.
