Description

ATEN SN3402 2-Port RS-232/422/485 Serial Device Server

Overview

The SN3402 is a 2-port serial-to-IP device server that connects RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 legacy serial devices to a 10/100 Ethernet network — the right tool when you need to integrate older serial-based access controllers, PLCs, or serial cameras into a modern IP infrastructure without replacing the field hardware. Each of the two ports (color-coded green and orange) handles a separate serial device, and the built-in 1.5 kV magnetic isolation on the network side protects both the SN3402 and connected equipment from ground loops and transient surges common in industrial or mixed-use wiring environments.

Compatibility

The SN3402 works with any RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 serial device — including legacy access control panels, serial-port PTZ camera controllers, industrial sensors, and automation equipment. Linux hosts running Real TTY driver (v1.1.101) can address connected devices as native virtual COM ports, which means no application-layer changes for software already written to a serial port. The unit integrates into any ATEN serial console management architecture and is compatible with the optional VE-RMK1U rack mounting kit for structured rack deployments. For broader serial-to-IP planning, see the serial device server selection guide.

Installation Notes

Power arrives via either a DC jack (9 VDC from included adapter, 100–240 VAC 50/60 Hz input) or a 3-pole terminal block accepting 9–48 VDC — the terminal block input makes it suitable for DIN-rail deployments fed from an industrial DC bus without requiring a separate AC adapter. Mounting options are desktop, wall, DIN-rail, or 19-inch rack with the separately sold VE-RMK1U rack mounting kit. The semi-recessed reset pushbutton prevents accidental resets in shared-rack environments. Operating humidity range is 5–95% RH non-condensing; confirm the installation environment stays within that envelope before deploying in unconditioned spaces. Firmware updates to v1.0.087 (released 2025-11-13) are applied via the management interface using the published zip package.
