Overview

The Altronix PACE1KR is a single pair Ethernet and PoE extender designed to transmit IP data and power over twisted-pair copper cabling up to 1 kilometer (3,280 feet). This device is critical for extending network reach in environments where traditional Ethernet cabling is impractical or cost-prohibitive, such as retrofitting older analog camera installations or deploying devices across large campuses. It enables the use of existing UTP infrastructure, significantly reducing installation time and material costs for IP surveillance and network devices.

Compatibility

The PACE1KR is designed to work with most IP cameras, access control systems, and other network devices that support standard Ethernet connectivity and receive power via PoE (802.3af/at). It functions as a pair, requiring one unit at the camera/device end and another at the headend or switch location. It is compatible with standard network switches and PoE injectors that provide sufficient power for the connected device.

Installation Notes

Installation requires terminating standard UTP cable (e.g., Cat5e, Cat6) to the RJ45 connectors on both units. Ensure proper polarity is maintained between the paired devices. The maximum transmission distance of 1km is dependent on cable quality and environmental interference. Power is supplied to the headend unit via a standard PoE switch or injector, which is then passed through to the remote unit and the connected device. The system is designed for plug-and-play operation with minimal configuration.
