Description

ATEN KN1116VA 16-Port KVM-over-IP Switch

Overview

The ATEN KN1116VA is a 16-port KVM-over-IP switch designed for data center and server room environments where operators need simultaneous local and remote console access to rack-mounted servers. Supporting 1 remote user and 1 local user at the same time, it eliminates the need to choose between in-room technician access and remote management — both sessions run concurrently without interference. Cascade up to 256 servers across multiple KN1116VA units, making it a practical fit for growing infrastructure without requiring a forklift upgrade to the KVM layer. Port selection via pushbuttons, on-screen GUI, or hotkeys gives technicians three methods to switch targets quickly — useful in high-density racks where speed matters during an incident. The dual IEC 60320/C14 power inlets support redundant power connections, so a single PDU failure doesn't take down console access to your entire server stack.

Compatibility

The KN1116VA connects to servers and devices via PS/2 or USB keyboard and mouse interfaces, covering both legacy PS/2-equipped servers and modern USB-only systems without requiring separate adapters for each port type. It is compatible with ATEN KVM adapter cables (KA-series) for connecting target servers. Cascade configurations use additional KN-series KVM-over-IP switches. The unit operates on 100–240V AC, 50–60Hz input power, making it compatible with standard North American and international PDUs without a step-down transformer.

Installation Notes

Rack-mount form factor fits standard 19-inch racks; consult ATEN's physical dimension specification (expressed as L×W×H per ATEN's rack-product convention) before ordering rack rails or blanking panels. Operating humidity ceiling is 80% RH non-condensing — adequate for most controlled data center environments, but not suitable for unconditioned server closets with condensation risk. Firmware is field-upgradeable; current release v2.0.192 (2026-05-04) via the unified package kn1108va-kn1116va-v2.0.192.zip, which covers both the KN1108VA and KN1116VA — confirm you are applying the correct model's firmware path during upgrade. Scan interval is configurable from 1 to 255 seconds, allowing auto-scan sequences to be tuned to the polling cadence your NOC workflow requires.
