ATEN KN2124VB 24-Port Cat5 FHD IP KVM Switch
Overview
The KN2124VB is a rackmount IP KVM switch that gives two remote operators and one local user simultaneous, independent access to up to 24 directly connected servers — and up to 512 nodes when cascaded with compatible ATEN KVM switches. Designed for data center and server room environments where out-of-band BIOS-level access is non-negotiable, the KN2124VB delivers full HD video over existing Cat5/Cat5e/Cat6 infrastructure, keeping cabling costs low. Port selection via pushbuttons, hotkeys, or the built-in GUI means operators can reach any target server without leaving a remote session or walking the floor. Dual IEC 60320/C14 power inputs support redundant power feeds — a practical requirement in any environment where the KVM itself is a single point of failure. The KN2124VB accepts both PS/2 and USB keyboard/mouse connections at the server side, covering legacy and current-generation servers in the same rack.
Compatibility
The KN2124VB is compatible with ATEN KN-series and KM-series IP KVM infrastructure. Cascade expansion to 512 nodes requires compatible ATEN KVM switches in the same product family (KN2116VB, KN2132VB, KN4032VB, KN4064VB, KN8032VB, KN8064VB, and related KN-series variants). Server-side connectivity supports PS/2 and USB interface adapters (ATEN KA-series KVM adapters), covering x86 servers, blade chassis KVM modules, and serial console targets where appropriate adapters are used. The GUI-based access interface is browser-accessible for remote operators, eliminating the need for dedicated client software on every workstation. Firmware v4.8.473 (released 2025-12-11) applies across the KN VB-series family via a shared update package.
Installation Notes
Rack mounting follows standard 1U form factor conventions; note that ATEN expresses physical dimensions in LxWxH format rather than the conventional WxDxH — verify rack depth clearance using the depth (L) value from the datasheet before ordering. Input power is auto-ranging at 100–240V~ / 50–60Hz / 1A, so no manual voltage selection is required in mixed-voltage facilities. Operating humidity must stay at or below 80% RH non-condensing — standard for enclosed server rooms but worth confirming in facilities with cooling or condensation issues. Scan interval is configurable from 1 to 255 seconds, allowing operators to tune auto-scan polling to match the number of active targets without flooding the display.
