The Viking Electronics K-1770-IP is a SIP 2.0 VoIP entry phone built for commercial access points where a single device needs to handle directory dialing, keypad PIN entry, and 125KHz proximity card reads simultaneously. It ships with a flush-mount rough-in box and supports surface mounting via the optional VE-6x7, giving installers flexibility on new and retrofit frames. PoE Class 2 power draw (under 6.5W) means a standard 802.3af switch port powers the unit — no separate power supply run needed. The 14-gauge 316 stainless steel faceplate with laser-etched graphics and vandal-resistant metal keypad make this suitable for exterior lobbies, parking structures, and loading dock entries where cosmetic durability is a real concern.
The built-in proximity card reader operates at 125KHz with 26-bit Wiegand output and is compatible with Viking Electronics PRx-C, PRx-C-ISO, and PRx-FOB credential formats, plus HID and AWID cards and fobs — the most common legacy 125KHz technologies deployed in commercial buildings. The Wiegand port supports cable runs up to 500 ft, so the access control panel doesn't need to be in the same IDF. Relay output is two SPDT contacts rated at 2 amps, which is sufficient to drive most electric strikes and mag-locks directly without an external relay board. The K-1770-IP registers as a standard SIP 2.0 endpoint (RFC 3261), making it compatible with virtually any SIP-capable PBX or IP-PBX. Audio codec support covers G.711u, G.711a, and G.722 — G.722 wideband is worth using when the far-end phone supports it, since speech intelligibility improves noticeably on noisy loading docks. Directory capacity is 250 programmable numbers with 250 rollover numbers; the proximity card reader stores up to 1,000 credentials and the keypad supports 1,000 entry codes. For full entry phone coverage across a campus, review VoIP entry phones compatible with your PBX environment. When planning access control integration, confirm your panel supports 26-bit Wiegand input at the reader port.
Operating temperature range is -30°F to 140°F, so this unit installs in unheated vestibules and cold-climate exterior walls without heater kits. The standard unit carries an IP66 rating; the EWP (Extreme Weather Protection) variant adds 100% humidity tolerance and an IP67-rated switch — specify the EWP model if the installation is exposed to driving rain or condensation cycles. Reader power draw is 5–14V DC at 60mA max; budget this from your access control panel's auxiliary output or a dedicated 12V supply. Faceplate dimensions are 5.5
