The Viking Electronics K-1770-BN-IPEWP is a SIP 2.0 VoIP entry phone built for commercial access control points that need phone-based call-out, keypad code entry, and 125KHz proximity card reading in a single flush-mount unit. The oil-rubbed bronze faceplate is 14-gauge 316 stainless steel with laser-etched graphics — vandal-resistant construction that holds up at unsupervised building entries. It ships with a rough-in box for flush mounting, and the EWP (Enhanced Weather Protection) variant designation on the K-1770-BN-IPEWP specifically adds board-level moisture protection and raises humidity tolerance to 100%, making it the correct choice over the non-EWP variant for any exterior installation exposed to direct rain or condensation. A single Cat5e/Cat6 run carries both voice and power via PoE Class 2 (under 6.5W) — no separate power supply needed, and it won't strain a standard 802.3af switch port.
The integrated 26-bit Wiegand card reader outputs industry-standard data compatible with the Viking ES-1 door controller and any third-party access controller that accepts 26-bit Wiegand input — which covers virtually every commercial access panel on the market. The SIP 2.0 / RFC3261 stack integrates with any SIP-compliant PBX or IP phone system; no proprietary call server required. Keypad dialing supports 250 speed-dial numbers and 250 rollover numbers, so it fits hosted VoIP environments as well as on-prem systems. Up to 1,000 programmable keypad entry codes and 1,000 card numbers are stored on-device. The unit connects via RJ45 10/100 Base-T and includes 14 gel-filled butt connectors for field wire splices. Wiegand cable runs up to 500 ft on 24 AWG. For installations requiring surface mounting, the optional Viking VE-6x7 surface mount box is the correct companion — not included in the box. See our VoIP intercom and entry phone category and the broader access control lineup for complementary controllers and readers.
Flush mounting uses the included rough-in box (4.5" x 5.5" x 2.5"). Surface mounting requires the separately ordered VE-6x7. The EWP designation means the reader PCB is protected for up to 100% humidity — but the standard IP66 rating applies to the faceplate assembly, not an immersed installation; skip this unit if the entry point involves pooling water or pressure washing. Operating range is -30°F to 140°F (-34°C to 60°C), suitable for outdoor use in most North American climates. Two sets of SPDT relay contacts (2A) are available for door strike or gate control directly from the unit. CE, FCC Part 15, and Canada ICES-003 Class A regulatory compliance covers standard commercial deployments in the US and Canada. Audio codecs G.711u, G.711a, and G.722 are supported — G.722 delivers wideband audio quality if the connected PBX supports it, which noticeably improves call intelligibility at noisy entrances. Review your PoE switch port budget before deployment: at under 6.5W Class 2, a single port allocation is straightforward, but confirm your switch supports 802.3af on the port used.
