Overview

The K-1770-IP-EWP is a stainless steel, vandal-resistant VoIP entry phone that combines a built-in keypad, 125KHz 26-bit Wiegand proximity card reader, and IP66-rated Enhanced Weather Protection (EWP) board enclosure into a single flush- or surface-mounted unit. It draws just 4W (Class 1) over standard PoE — meaning any 802.3af/at/bt switch or injector powers it without a local transformer or separate supply run. Designed for commercial entry control points where a single device needs to handle both SIP-based voice calls and credential-based door release, the K-1770-IP-EWP eliminates the need for a separate reader and intercom at the same opening.

Compatibility

The K-1770-IP-EWP integrates directly with the Viking Electronics K-1770-IP Series entry phone ecosystem. The built-in 26-bit Wiegand output connects to any Wiegand-compatible access control panel — industry-standard format, so it is not locked to a Viking-branded controller. The onboard relay output (2A @ 30VDC / 250VAC max) handles electric strikes and magnetic lock coils within that rating directly. The 12VDC @ 50mA auxiliary power output can drive a small reader LED or supplemental device. Flush mounting uses the included rough-in box; surface mounting requires the optional Viking VE-6x7 surface mount box (sold separately). Compatible with any SIP-based IP PBX or call manager for the VoIP intercom function.

Installation Notes

Network connection runs at 100Mbps full duplex — a dedicated PoE port on the access switch is the correct approach, not a shared trunk port. Wiring gauge is 19–26 AWG with a maximum insulation diameter of 0.082 in.; oversized or armored cable will not seat correctly in the terminal block. The Wiegand reader cable to the access panel is rated to 500 ft on 24 AWG stranded shielded — run shielded wire and ground the shield at one end only to avoid noise on the credential line. EWP board protection meets IP66, so direct rain exposure is acceptable, but the unit is not rated for submersion. A PoE switch or injector supplying at least 4W on the port is required; do not use passive PoE injectors that do not negotiate 802.3af.
