Description

Viking Electronics E-1600-IP VoIP ADA-Compliant Emergency Phone

The Viking Electronics E-1600-IP is a surface-mount VoIP emergency phone built for demanding environments where reliable handsfree communication is non-negotiable — parking structures, stairwells, industrial facilities, and outdoor emergency call stations. It runs entirely on PoE Class 1 (under 4 watts), integrates natively into SIP 2.0 infrastructure, and carries an IP66 rating that keeps it operational through direct rain and dust exposure. If you're specifying an emergency phone for an ADA-compliant installation on a SIP-based system, the E-1600-IP is purpose-built for exactly that use case.

Key Features

  • PoE Class 1 Power (IEEE 802.3af): The E-1600-IP draws fewer than 4 watts — well inside the 15.4W budget of standard 802.3af ports. That means you can deploy it on virtually any managed PoE switch without carving out high-power budget, and there's no separate power supply to wire, conduit, or maintain. On long cable runs to remote stairwells or parking decks, that simplifies the install considerably.
  • SIP 2.0 / RFC 3261 Native: The unit registers directly on any SIP-compliant phone system or IP PBX — no gateway, no adapter, no analog conversion. It supports VoIP phone infrastructure the same way a desk phone does. Up to 5 emergency numbers and up to 5 informational numbers can be programmed, giving dispatchers and facilities teams flexible call routing without custom hardware.
  • 95 dB SPL at 1 meter: In a loud environment — a loading dock, a parking garage with traffic noise, a mechanical room — that output level is enough to be heard clearly without requiring the caller to cup the speaker or shout. This is a meaningful spec for ADA compliance reviews where audibility at distance is evaluated.
  • IP66 Ingress Protection: Dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets from any direction. This rating handles direct rain, hose-down washdown environments, and airborne particulate without degrading the electronics. It does not cover submersion — if the installation point risks standing water accumulation, factor that into placement. The unit also meets the Enhanced Weather Protection (EWP) standard at up to 100% humidity, covering high-condensation environments like covered parking or enclosed loading areas.
  • -40°F to 140°F Operating Range: Few emergency phones publish this temperature floor. Running SIP handsfree communication reliably at -40°F matters in northern US and Canadian outdoor installations where less-specified hardware simply stops working in winter. The 140°F ceiling handles exposed southern installations in summer.
  • G.711u / G.711a / G.722 Audio Codecs: G.722 is a wideband codec (7 kHz audio bandwidth vs. 3.4 kHz for G.711) — call clarity is noticeably better when both endpoints support it. In emergency scenarios where understanding the caller clearly the first time matters, that's not a luxury spec. G.711 fallback ensures compatibility with older PBX endpoints that haven't been upgraded.
  • 16-Gauge Steel Housing, Red Powder Coat: The enclosure is built to resist physical abuse — 16-gauge steel at this gauge thickness is the standard for commercial-grade outdoor control panels and electrical enclosures. The red powder coat finish and
