Description

Middle Atlantic VRS Vertical Rackmount Shelf System

Overview

The Middle Atlantic VRS is a 2U rackmount shelf designed to house up to six cable boxes, satellite receivers, or similarly sized components in a standard 19-inch rack enclosure. Rather than consuming a full shelf per device or stacking units loosely, the VRS organizes them vertically — six units in 3.5 inches of rack height. That's the practical pitch: integrators running AV distribution racks, digital signage head-ends, or security operations centers with multiple tuners or decoders can consolidate hardware without burning RU real estate. The VRS ships in a 19 in (48.3 cm) wide chassis with 15 in (38.1 cm) of usable depth and a 35 lb (15.9 kg) weight capacity across all six bays — call it roughly 5.8 lbs per slot as a working budget, though distribution matters.

Compatibility

Designed for standard EIA 19-inch rack enclosures. The 15-inch usable depth accommodates most consumer and commercial cable/satellite receivers in the sub-15-inch depth range — verify your specific device depth before ordering, as units deeper than 15 inches will not fit. The VRS fits within Middle Atlantic's rack enclosure and rack accessory line, making it a natural complement to their equipment racks and credenzas. It is also compatible with any third-party 19-inch two-post or four-post rack accessory infrastructure meeting EIA-310 standards. Not rated for active electronics requiring ventilation management — plan airflow separately if the housed devices generate significant heat.

Installation Notes

Mounts in 2U (3.5 in / 8.9 cm) of rack space. Overall chassis depth is 15.38 in (39.1 cm) — account for the small overhang beyond the usable 15 in when measuring rack cabinet interior clearance. Total loaded weight must stay at or below 35 lbs; factor in cable dress and any attached adapters. No tools or torque specs are specified in manufacturer documentation beyond standard rack-screw installation.
