The ATEN VE812T is the transmitter half of the VE812 HDMI-over-HDBaseT extender pair, designed for AV installations where a 4K source must reach a display too far for a direct HDMI cable run. The VE812T accepts a single HDMI Type A input and sends video and control signals over a single Cat 5e, 6, or 6a cable — eliminating the need to route expensive HDMI cables across walls, ceilings, or conduit over long runs. Typical deployment scenarios include digital signage endpoints, conference room display extension, and boardroom AV integration where the source device (PC, media player, or matrix output) sits in a rack or AV closet up to 100m from the screen.
Maximum reach depends on cable grade: 4K resolution up to 70m over Cat 5e/6, or up to 100m over Cat 6a. Full 1080p extends to 100m on Cat 5e/6. Supported 4K formats include 4096×2160 and 3840×2160 at 60Hz (4:2:0) or 30Hz (4:4:4) — the 4:4:4 path at 30Hz matters for color-critical signage or medical display work where chroma subsampling is unacceptable.
The VE812T is the transmitter unit for the ATEN VE812 HDMI HDBaseT extender system and pairs exclusively with the VE812R receiver unit. It is not a standalone extender — both units are required for a working link. The HDMI Type A female input accepts any standard HDMI source; no active adapter is needed for DisplayPort or USB-C sources as long as a passive or active HDMI adapter is used upstream. The unit is also compatible with HDMI extender infrastructure using HDBaseT-standard structured cabling, and can be deployed alongside compatible HDBaseT-capable AV switches or matrix systems that support the same cabling standard.
The VE812T requires a separate DC power supply via its DC jack — it does not draw power from the HDMI source or the Cat cable. Maximum cable length to the transmitter chassis is 3m for the HDMI source connection, so position the transmitter within direct HDMI reach of the source device. Humidity tolerance is 0–80% RH non-condensing; avoid unconditioned spaces with moisture exposure. Use Cat 6a for any run exceeding 70m to guarantee 4K signal integrity — Cat 5e at marginal lengths risks 4K instability. Sold in carton lots of 5 units, which suits multi-room or phased deployments.
