Description

ATEN KE6940AT USB Dual Display DVI-I KVM over IP Transmitter

Overview

The KE6940AT is the transmitter (TX) unit in ATEN's KE6940 KVM over IP extender pair, designed to install at the source computer and carry dual DVI-I video, USB keyboard/mouse, audio, and serial signals across a standard IP network to a remote receiver. It targets deployments where operators need to control a workstation or server from a distance without running direct cable runs — control rooms, broadcast facilities, secure server rooms, and industrial environments where the compute hardware must be physically separated from the operator station. Video resolution reaches up to 1920×1200 at 60Hz over IP, with latency held under 5ms on a properly configured LAN — acceptable for real-time operator interaction. The dual-display output means you can drive two monitors at the receiver side from a single source machine, which is relevant for control-room applications running multi-pane monitoring software or KVM switch environments where screen real estate matters.

Compatibility

The KE6940AT is the transmitter half of the ATEN KE6940 system and pairs exclusively with the KE6940AR receiver unit. It connects to the source computer via USB (keyboard/mouse) and DVI-I (dual video outputs). The LAN ports — one RJ-45 and one SFP slot — let you connect over copper Ethernet or fiber, making it compatible with both standard enterprise switching infrastructure and fiber-backbone deployments where greater distance or electrical isolation is needed. The slide switch on the unit supports Auto mode, RS-232 Config/Access Control mode, and Local mode, giving you flexibility for initial setup via serial console or direct local access. It is part of the broader KVM over IP extender product family and is compatible with ATEN's KE Manager software for centralized session management across multiple KE-series extender pairs.

Installation Notes

Install the KE6940AT at the source computer end; mount it in a rack if needed — note that rack-mount products from ATEN express physical dimensions in L×W×H format rather than the conventional W×D×H. The SFP slot accepts standard SFP transceivers for fiber runs; the RJ-45 port handles copper. Mode selection via the slide switch should be configured before deployment — RS-232 Config mode is used for initial serial-based setup, while Auto mode handles normal IP-based operation. Keep the operating environment within 0–95% RH non-condensing. Firmware v1.7.164 (released 2024-05-24) is the current release and applies to both the KE6900A and KE6940A series; update via the file ke6900a-ke6940a-v1.7.164.zip following ATEN's standard firmware upgrade procedure for KVM extenders.
