Overview

The Ubiquiti UNVR is a 2U rack-mount network video recorder purpose-built for UniFi Protect deployments. It consolidates video storage and management for mid-scale surveillance infrastructure—solving the problem of distributed storage bottlenecks by centralizing recording at the network edge. Install this in a data center, network closet, or server room to manage up to 70 HD cameras, 35 2K cameras, or 24 4K cameras in a single local appliance.

The UNVR runs on a quad-core ARM Cortex-A57 processor at 1.7 GHz with 8 GB RAM—enough horsepower for simultaneous recording, playback, and event queries across dozens of feeds. A 10G SFP+ port eliminates the gigabit ceiling; you won't choke your uplink or camera ingest with storage traffic. Seven 3.5-inch drive bays accept standard HDD or SSD media, supporting up to 135W of drive power internally—enough for multiple high-capacity disks without auxiliary PSU complications. The 1.3-inch touchscreen and Ethernet management port allow local provisioning and emergency access without relying on the UniFi Protect cloud application.

Compatibility

The UNVR is the core recorder appliance for the Ubiquiti UniFi Protect ecosystem. It works exclusively with UniFi Protect cameras, access hubs (up to 150 supported), and the UniFi Protect management application. You manage cameras and video retention via the UniFi Protect app; the NVR does not operate as a standalone RTSP server or support third-party VMS systems. UniFi Protect adoption is mandatory—there is no fallback to generic ONVIF.

Installation Notes

The UNVR draws 160W maximum and requires one universal AC input (100–240V, 3A, 50/60 Hz) or an optional USP-RPS DC backup (11.5V DC, 13.91A). Power redundancy is supported via dual supplies. Operating ambient temperature is -5 to 40°C (23–104°F) with 5–95% humidity, noncondensing—suitable for climate-controlled server rooms but not unconditioned spaces.
