The Ubiquiti UA-G3-INTERCOM is a PoE-powered access intercom designed for door entry and visitor management within UniFi Access control ecosystems. The unit combines integrated 2MP video, two-way audio, and multi-credential authentication—NFC tags, PIN codes, and mobile unlock via the UniFi mobile app—into a single IP65-rated terminal. Drawing only 13W at 48V DC over a single Gigabit RJ45 connection, it eliminates dedicated power infrastructure at each entry point. The aluminum and polycarbonate enclosure operates reliably from −30°C to 60°C, making it suitable for both protected indoor lobbies and exposed outdoor vestibules. This is centralized access control hardware: the device requires UniFi Access backend management and does not function as a standalone reader.
The UA-G3-INTERCOM is engineered for multi-building access control where credential management and audit trails are centralized in a single UniFi backend. Typical deployments include corporate campuses, multitenant office buildings, hospitality properties, and healthcare facilities where visitor flow, employee badge-less entry, and video verification are operational priorities. The portrait orientation and integrated display make it well-suited for lobby entry points where visitors interact directly with the unit. Unlike traditional door readers that require separate intercoms and cameras, the UA-G3-INTERCOM consolidates entry points into a single managed node, reducing per-door component count and total cost of ownership across 10+ entry points.
Network architecture is straightforward: run a single Gigabit shielded Cat 5e+ cable from a PoE-capable switch (or PoE injector) to each terminal location. The 13W draw is well within 802.3af budgets. UniFi Access backend manages credential provisioning, audit logging, and remote unlock commands. Mobile app integration allows staff to answer intercom calls and grant access from a smartphone without being physically present at the entry point—a critical operational advantage in large or distributed facilities where a single security desk serves multiple buildings.
Installation requires planning around display operating temperature limits: the portrait display operates only to −25°C, so outdoor installations in climates colder than −13°F should place the terminal in a heated vestibule or under a protective overhang. IP65 rating handles direct rain and dusty environments but not submersion; avoid high-pressure wash or constant water spray directed at panel seams. Wire with shielded Cat 5e or Cat 6 cabling, particularly if NFC readers are installed within 3–5 feet of the intercom, to minimize RF interference. The included stainless steel bracket is corrosion-resistant, but verify fastener materials (stainless steel hardware recommended) in salt-spray or marine environments.
The UA-G3-INTERCOM is NDAA-compliant, CE, FCC, and IC certified. It meets UL 294 (access control) and CAN/ULC-60839-11-1 (Canadian access control) standards. UniFi Access is the required management platform; the intercom does not support ONVIF video streaming or third-party VMS integration. All access control logic, credential sync, and unlock commands flow through UniFi OS, which must be deployed on a UniFi Dream Machine, Dream Machine SE, or equivalent UniFi gateway appliance. This closed-loop architecture ensures audit integrity and simplifies operational complexity for organizations already standardized on Ubiquiti networking and access control infrastructure. For enterprises with heterogeneous access control systems, the UA-G3-INTERCOM is not a drop-in reader—migration planning is required.
We've deployed the Ubiquiti UA-G3-INTERCOM across corporate campuses and hospitality properties where UniFi networking is already the backbone, and it's a clean fit in that ecosystem. The real operational win is consolidating the intercom, video, and access reader into one wall-mounted unit that pulls power and data over a single PoE cable. On a 50-door campus retrofit, that eliminates 50 separate 24V AC runs and three additional cabling phases. The portrait 2MP display is genuinely useful for visitor check-in and mobile callup—staff answering from a desk or phone can see the person at the door in real time. The built-in two-way audio means you're not hunting for a separate intercom speaker panel. Where this device hits hard is in organizations already running UniFi Access with distributed sites: credentials, audit logs, and unlock policies stay centralized, no per-door configuration, and remote unlock from the UniFi mobile app is a genuine time-saver on busy days. That said, this is not a universal reader. If your site is heterogeneous—some doors on Genetec, some on Milestone, some on legacy Honeywell—the UA-G3-INTERCOM forces you into the UniFi ecosystem. The device has no ONVIF, no RADIUS fallback, no third-party VMS hooks. You're all-in with Ubiquiti or you're looking elsewhere. For greenfield deployments and UniFi-standardized organizations, that constraint is irrelevant. For migrations from mixed environments, it's a non-starter unless you're consolidating onto UniFi Access as part of the same project.

Deployment Considerations:
The UA-G3-INTERCOM is the right choice for UniFi-committed organizations seeking a consolidated entry point with integrated video and multi-factor authentication. It reduces per-door complexity and total capex across mid-to-large deployments. It's not right for sites with heterogeneous access control platforms or organizations unwilling to standardize on the UniFi ecosystem.
