Overview

The EAP653 is a compact ceiling-mount Wi-Fi 6 access point designed for dense indoor environments where PoE simplifies infrastructure and client density matters. It delivers 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 2,402 Mbps on 5 GHz simultaneously, with support for 160 MHz channel width on 5 GHz — meaningful throughput gain in scenarios with multiple concurrent high-bandwidth clients (mobile carts, warehouse scanners, real-time inventory systems). The unit draws 30W via 802.3at PoE, eliminating separate power drops and reducing installation cost. Omada SDN integration provides centralized provisioning and client visibility across multiple sites from a single management interface.

Compatibility

The EAP653 operates as a standalone access point or integrates into the Omada SDN ecosystem (Omada Controller and Omada mobile app). It supports 16 simultaneous SSIDs (8 per band), MAC filtering, VLAN segmentation, rogue AP detection, and WPA3 encryption — standard for enterprise Wi-Fi deployments. Band steering and load balancing automatically distribute clients to less-congested bands, preventing single points of congestion in multi-AP rollouts. Beamforming extends effective range and reduces dead zones in large floor plans. MU-MIMO allows multiple clients to transmit and receive simultaneously without queueing, critical when dozens of mobile devices or barcode scanners associate to a single AP.

Installation Notes

Ceiling mount requires consideration of dropped ceiling height and plenum space for cable routing. Two internal antennas (2×3 dBi on 2.4 GHz, 3×2 dBi on 5 GHz) mean AP orientation affects signal distribution — position centrally within the coverage zone for balanced performance. Verify 802.3at PoE availability on upstream switch; PoE injectors or PoE+ switches will power the unit. Operating temperature range is 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F).
