The EAP650 is a ceiling-mount dual-band access point designed for office, retail, and small-scale warehouse deployments where centralized WiFi 6 coverage is required without exceeding enterprise AC power infrastructure. It combines 574 Mbps (2.4 GHz) and 2402 Mbps (5 GHz) throughput in a single compact ceiling fixture, reducing cabling runs compared to distributed pole or wall mounts. Support for 160 MHz channel width and MU-MIMO (multiple user, multiple input/output) means the EAP650 can serve multiple client connections simultaneously without proportional throughput degradation — essential in high-density environments such as warehouse receiving areas or retail floor operations where dozens of mobile devices connect concurrently.
The EAP650 accepts both IEEE 802.3at PoE (up to 15.4W per standard) and 12VDC auxiliary power, eliminating the need for AC runs to ceiling locations. A single 1 Gbps RJ45 port handles both data backhaul and device management, reducing ceiling-conduit requirements. Beamforming and airtime fairness algorithms distribute bandwidth dynamically across attached clients, preventing any single device from consuming excess spectrum — a critical advantage in congested retail or logistics environments where scanners, tablets, and smartphones compete for airtime.
The EAP650 integrates with TP-Link's Omada SDN controller platform and mobile app for centralized provisioning, monitoring, and band steering (automatic client migration between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz based on signal strength and congestion). Seamless roaming support enables mobile clients to transition between EAP650 units without dropping active sessions — necessary for warehouse picking operations or facility walkthroughs. Load balancing distributes new client associations across available spectrum to prevent any single band from saturation.
If your deployment requires outdoor coverage, PoE budget exceeding 15W per unit, or integrated network switching, evaluate higher-capacity models within the TP-Link access point line. For heavily RF-congested industrial environments (automotive manufacturing, dense metal racking), consider models with external antenna options that allow directional tuning.
