STI STI-8230-W Smoke Detector Protective Housing
Overview
The STI-8230-W is a steel protective cage designed to shield smoke detectors from vandalism and misuse in high-traffic or hostile environments—prisons, hospitals, correctional facilities, and food-service areas where detector damage and false alarms drive maintenance costs. Unlike solid covers that obstruct airflow, the STI-8230-W uses a perforated matrix that allows smoke to reach the sensor while blocking pencils, hands, and impact damage. The 16-gauge cold-rolled steel construction with white polyester coating resists corrosion in wet environments (food prep, water treatment) and integrates a conduit spacer for retrofit installation over existing detectors without compromising detection sensitivity. UL listed to U.S. safety standards for the specific detectors it covers.
Compatibility
Designed for retrofitting over STI 8100/A, STI 8100/BK, and STI 8100/W smoke detector models. The cage mounts via four-point fixing and suits both flush and surface-mount detector orientations. Compatible with standard ceiling and wall installations where existing electrical and mounting hardware remain in place. The conduit spacer accommodates typical wiring runs without requiring re-termination or junction-box relocation.
Installation Notes
