Overview
The STI-9741 is a ceiling-mounted protective cage designed to shield exit signs from accidental or intentional impact damage in commercial and institutional buildings. Built from gauge-9 welded steel wire with polyester corrosion-resistant coating, the housing measures 13.5 inches long × 10.5 inches wide × 2.75 inches deep — large enough to cover a broad range of standard exit sign models currently in use. The cage design allows light transmission while preventing physical damage to the sign itself, reducing unplanned replacement costs and downtime in high-traffic or vandalism-prone areas such as warehouses, distribution centers, healthcare facilities, and educational installations.
Compatibility
The STI-9741 mounts directly to ceiling-mounted exit sign infrastructure and integrates into standard building exit sign installations. It is compatible with exit signs that fit within its external envelope (13.5" × 10.5" × 2.75"). Installation uses supplied anchors and fasteners. Intruder-resistant hardware options are available separately to prevent cage removal. Note: light output may be reduced when the protective cage is installed; verify that exit sign illumination still meets NFPA 101 egress lighting requirements after installation.
Installation Notes
Installation is straightforward with supplied anchors and fasteners. Tools required are standard drill and screwdriver. The cage design allows quick removal and reinstallation for bulb replacement without removing the entire mount. Intruder-resistant bolts and a corresponding drill bit are available as options to secure the cage against tampering. No electrical wiring required — this is a passive mechanical protector only.
