Overview
The STI STI-9640 is a protective steel cage designed to shield exit sign fixtures from intentional vandalism and accidental impact damage in commercial and institutional facilities. Measuring 13.5 inches long × 10.5 inches wide × 2.75 inches deep, the STI-9640 fits a broad range of standard exit sign models currently in use. The cage is constructed from gauge 9 welded steel wire with a corrosion-resistant polyester coating, providing mechanical durability in high-traffic corridors, stairwells, and public assembly areas where exit signage faces frequent contact or deliberate damage risk.
Compatibility
The STI-9640 is compatible with most standard exit sign mounting hardware and installation frames. Its dimensions accommodate a wide range of common exit sign models. The protective cage does not interfere with standard mounting anchors and fasteners supplied with the unit. Installation is straightforward using the supplied anchors and screws. For enhanced security against tampering, optional tamper-resistant fasteners and a corresponding drill bit are available separately.
Installation Notes
The STI-9640 mounts directly to wall or ceiling fixtures using the supplied anchors and standard fasteners. Installation requires no special tools beyond a drill and screwdriver. Quick removal is possible for routine bulb replacement without full cage disassembly. Note that the protective cage may reduce light output from the exit sign — verify that illumination levels comply with NFPA 101 exit sign lighting requirements after installation. Tamper-resistant fastener kits are available if additional security against unauthorized removal is required.
