Viking Electronics ES-1 Stand-Alone Door Entry Controller

Overview

The ES-1 is a stand-alone door entry controller designed to operate a door strike or magnetic lock upon receiving a valid card read or keyless entry code. It suits small-to-mid commercial installs — up to 250 tenants — where a self-contained access control solution is needed without a back-end server or network management layer. The ES-1 accepts any industry-standard 26-bit Wiegand reader output, so the credential technology (proximity, smart card, PIN pad) is your choice — the controller itself is reader-agnostic. Power input is 120V AC or 12V DC at 500mA; the unit provides a 12–24V AC or DC output at 200mA to power a connected reader or peripheral, eliminating a separate reader power supply in most installs. Relay contacts rated at 5A/30V DC or 250V AC handle both low-voltage strikes and higher-draw magnetic locks without an intermediate relay in most configurations.

Compatibility

Works with any Wiegand device outputting standard 26-bit data — including Viking's own card readers from the Viking Electronics access and entry line, as well as third-party proximity and smart card readers from HID, Farpointe, and similar manufacturers. Compatible with Viking E-Series door entry phones (e.g., E-10A, E-20B) when integrating two-way audio communication with door release. Pairs with door strikes, electric mortise locks, and magnetic locks rated within the relay contact spec. Maximum Wiegand cable run is 152m (500 ft) — sufficient for nearly all single-door deployments. The LOG BUS output extends up to 1,610m (1 mile), supporting remote logging hardware or multi-panel event aggregation in larger door access control deployments.

Installation Notes

Operating environment is rated 32°F to 90°F (0°C to 32°C) at 5–95% non-condensing humidity — install in a conditioned or sheltered indoor enclosure; this is not a weatherproof outdoor unit. Physical footprint is compact at 5.25" x 3.5" x 1.75", fitting a standard single-gang back-box or small surface-mount enclosure. Wire the Wiegand data lines (D0/D1) within the 500 ft run limit; exceeding this distance risks data errors on card reads. Confirm lock power draw against the 200mA auxiliary output before wiring directly from the ES-1 — higher-draw mag locks will require an independent power supply. Review the access control power supply options if your lock exceeds this threshold.
