Speco Technologies SPUTPVD UTP Data Surge Protector
Overview
The SPUTPVD is an inline surge protector for unshielded twisted pair (UTP) data lines in IP video and CCTV deployments. It clamps transients and high-voltage surges—from nearby FM receivers, satellite dishes, lightning strikes, or RF interference—before they reach your cameras, recorders, or network equipment. Two-stage protection (130V AC/DC threshold) with 1-nanosecond attack time means the clamping happens fast enough to protect solid-state sensors and electronics. Sold individually but recommended in pairs (one at the camera end, one at the recorder or switch). SPUTPVD is NDAA-compliant.
Compatibility
Works with any unshielded twisted pair video or data line carrying IP cameras, analog video over UTP, or control signals. Does not require power—operates passively across the line. Terminal connector accepts standard UTP conductor pairs; insertion loss is less than 0.2 dB, so minimal signal degradation on long runs. Supports ONVIF-compliant IP camera systems and integrates into standard cabling infrastructure without external power supplies or enclosures.
Installation Notes
Rated for 130V AC/DC pass-through and 65 Vrms at 10 amps. Maximum surge capacity is 4 kV with 300-surge lifetime at 100 amps per surge. Return loss at 75 Ω is 16 dB—important if you're running coaxial video alongside UTP (minimize cross-talk). Mount in conduit or cable tray near the equipment you're protecting; compact dimensions (2.6″ L × 1″ W × 1″ H) allow tight installation. Pair units at both ends of a long run for bidirectional protection, especially in facilities near RF emitters or exposed to seasonal lightning risk.
