SDC 480-SSB Surface Box Controller
Overview
The SDC 480-SSB is a surface-mounted enclosure designed for access control installations where you need to mount a controller or interface box on existing door frames or walls without cutting into structure. The 5½" × 5½" × 2⅛" form factor accommodates credential readers and strike control hardware in a weatherized steel box. Built-in battery clip allows backup power integration for fail-safe/fail-secure strike operation during power loss — critical for maintaining door control when mains power is interrupted.
Compatibility
The 480-SSB integrates with TCP/IP-based access control systems and supports HID credential types (proximity cards, badge readers). The surface box design works with standard access control readers and strike mechanisms sized for 4½" to 6" square rough openings. Mount directly to existing door frames using the weatherized enclosure without requiring specialized structural preparation. Compatible with networked access platforms that support TCP communication protocols.
Installation Notes
Surface mounting requires standard fasteners appropriate to your door frame material (concrete, wood, or metal). The weatherized enclosure provides environmental protection suitable for interior and covered exterior installations. Battery clip integration allows 12V backup battery connection (battery not included) to maintain strike control during power failure. Confirm reader voltage and strike voltage requirements match your installed access control system before deployment — mismatch will prevent proper strike energization.
