Description

SDC 480-1SB Narrow Mullion Surface Box

Overview

The SDC 480-1SB is a narrow mullion surface-mounted enclosure for access control systems where frame width is constrained. It houses controller hardware and supports HID credential readers in retrofit and new construction installations. The narrow profile fits tight mullion spaces — the actual installation problem it solves is fitting full access control logic into doors where traditional wide-body boxes won't fit or would look out of place aesthetically and functionally.

Compatibility

The 480-1SB communicates via TCP/IP and accepts HID credential types, making it compatible with standard HID-based networked access control systems. Surface-mount design works in both retrofit scenarios (existing door frames) and new construction where you're specifying the frame and controller placement from the start. Suitable for commercial and institutional environments running security integrator-managed networked access control infrastructure.

Installation Notes

Surface-mount installation means the enclosure mounts directly to the door frame or mullion surface using fasteners — no recessed or mortise cutting required. This reduces installation labor compared to recessed boxes but requires that the mounting surface be accessible and structurally sound. Ensure the narrow profile does not interfere with existing hardware, closer arms, or frame molding. TCP/IP connectivity requires network cabling to the controller location; plan conduit routing accordingly. Verify that local fire codes and accessibility standards (ADA, etc.) do not restrict surface-mounted control boxes in your jurisdiction.
