Overview

The AP4423A is a 1U rack-mounted automatic transfer switch designed for data center and server room deployments that require dual-feed power redundancy without relying on a UPS to handle source failover. It accepts two independent 230V AC 50/60 Hz feeds via C20 inlets and automatically switches load to the secondary source when the primary fails — keeping connected equipment running through a PDU failure, breaker trip, or upstream power event. With eight C13 outputs and one C19 output, the AP4423A suits mixed loads: the C13 ports handle standard 1U/2U servers, switches, and patch panels, while the C19 outlet supports higher-draw devices such as high-density blade chassis PSUs or dense storage arrays that ship with C20 plugs. At 8.25 lb (3.74 kg) and specified at 1.73 in height, it mounts horizontally in a standard 19-inch rack and ships with rack mounting brackets included.

Compatibility

The AP4423A is compatible with any dual-feed rack deployment operating on 230V single-phase at up to 16A total load. It integrates naturally with APC rack UPS systems and rack PDU families — particularly APC's Rack PDU 2G and Metered Rack PDU lines — as a downstream transfer layer. The C19 output is compatible with C20-inlet devices including higher-wattage APC Smart-UPS units, Eaton rack PDUs, and enterprise server PSUs rated for IEC 60320 C19/C20 connections. Input feeds connect via standard IEC 60320 C20 plugs. No circuit breaker is integrated — upstream branch circuit protection is required and should be sized per local electrical code for a 16A, 230V circuit.

Installation Notes

Mount horizontally in a 19-inch rack using the included rack mounting brackets. Both input feeds must originate from independent circuits or independent UPS/PDU outputs to achieve meaningful redundancy — a single-feed split at a power strip provides no failover benefit. The unit specifies no integrated circuit breaker; confirm upstream protection is in place before commissioning. Input frequency tolerance covers both 50 Hz and 60 Hz installations.
