Viking Electronics PTR-1 Professional Telecom Recorder Kit
Overview
The PTR-1 is a telephone recording interface kit from Viking Electronics designed to connect an external recording device to an analog telephone line or handset. The PTR-1 ships as a complete bundle — everything needed to tap audio from a standard telephone circuit without additional sourcing. This kit targets installers integrating call recording into small business phone environments, security offices, or dispatch stations where capturing both sides of a conversation is a hard requirement.
Compatibility
The PTR-1 is built for analog telephone environments. It is compatible with standard RJ-11 modular telephone circuits and analog handsets that accept a 1/8" (3.5mm) audio jack. It pairs with Viking's own product line — including analog entry phone systems and any device presenting a standard modular telephone interface — as well as third-party analog desk phones and recording devices with 1/8" inputs. It is not designed for direct digital VoIP handsets or IP PBX extensions without an analog adapter stage.
Installation Notes
No special tools are required beyond basic hand installation. The 7-foot recorder cable provides enough reach for most desk or rack-adjacent recorder placements without an extension. The handset T-adapter inserts in-line between the handset cord and the phone body — no permanent wiring modification needed, making it reversible for temporary deployments or compliance-driven monitoring setups.
