Description

Lenovo 7XH7A05908 ThinkSystem ST550 2.5-Inch SAS/SATA 4-Bay Backplane Kit

Overview

The Lenovo 7XH7A05908 is a 4-bay 2.5-inch drive backplane kit designed to expand or restore hot-swap storage capacity in ThinkSystem ST550 tower servers. If you're adding drives to an ST550 that shipped without a fully populated backplane configuration, or replacing a failed backplane assembly, this kit provides the direct-attach SAS and SATA connectivity needed to bring those drive bays online. At 2.89 lb and 8.00 x 9.00 x 6.50 in, the assembly is sized to fit the ST550 chassis without modification — no adapter plates, no improvised brackets.

Compatibility

This backplane kit is designed specifically for the Lenovo ThinkSystem ST550 tower server platform. It supports both SAS and SATA drive interfaces, meaning you can populate the four bays with SAS HDDs, SATA HDDs, or SATA SSDs — giving you flexibility to mix drive types depending on the storage controller installed in the ST550. Verify your ST550's RAID or HBA controller supports the drive protocol you intend to use before ordering; the backplane itself is dual-interface, but the controller determines what's actually addressable. This kit is not compatible with other ThinkSystem tower or rack models — consult the server components catalog for backplane options on ST250, ST558, or SR-series rack units.

Installation Notes

Installation requires partial disassembly of the ST550 chassis to seat and cable the backplane. Ensure the server is powered down and de-energized before beginning. SAS/SATA signal cables and power connectors must be routed from the installed storage controller and server backplane to this assembly — confirm cable lengths and connector types match your ST550's internal routing before the install. Country of origin is Mexico; the unit ships factory-new as a genuine Lenovo component.
