Description

Viking Electronics PSA-TB-IP IP Paging Speaker Adapter with Talk-Back

Overview

The PSA-TB-IP is a PoE-powered adapter that converts passive 25V or 70V paging speakers into SIP-registered, multicast-capable IP endpoints with two-way talk-back. It draws under 13W via standard 802.3af PoE — no separate power supply, no new wiring runs beyond the Ethernet drop. The talk-back microphone path turns a one-way ceiling speaker into a full duplex intercom station, which is the defining reason to specify the PSA-TB-IP over the PSA-IP (non-talk-back variant) in lobbies, loading docks, or any zone where personnel need to respond without walking to a handset. SIP 2.0 (RFC 3261) compliance means it registers to any standards-compliant SIP server or IP-PBX. Multicast support lets you drive simultaneous zone announcements without server-side conferencing overhead. Audio codecs include G.711u, G.711a, and G.722 — G.722 delivers wideband audio (7 kHz) for intelligibility in noisy industrial environments. The built-in 6W Class D amplifier drives the connected speaker to 105 dB SPL at 1 meter, adequate for warehouses and large open areas without an external amplifier. Paging prioritization interrupts active calls to deliver announcements, which matters in PBX-integrated environments where the extension may already be in use.

Compatibility

Connects to any passive 25V or 70V distributed speaker — Viking's own Viking Electronics speaker and paging line as well as third-party commercial ceiling, pendant, and wall speakers wired to a 25/70V transformer. Pairs with any SIP 2.0-compliant IP-PBX or SIP server (Cisco, Poly, Grandstream, Asterisk/FreePBX, 3CX, and similar). Integrates into multicast paging architectures used in Cisco and Polycom environments. For deployments requiring a self-contained ceiling tile solution with built-in speaker, see Viking's 22TB-IP. For zones needing paging only (no talk-back), the PSA-IP is the lower-cost alternative. The PSA-TB-IP fits naturally alongside broader IP intercom and paging systems already on the network.

Installation Notes

Mounts magnetically to the back of a compatible speaker magnet or via the 25/70V transformer mounting holes — no separate bracket required in most retrofits. Connects to the speaker via two included butt connectors and two lever connectors; network connection is a single RJ-45 10/100 port. Rated -40°F to 140°F (-40°C to 60°C) with 5–95% non-condensing humidity, so it survives unheated storage rooms, parking structures, and outdoor-adjacent installs without additional enclosure work. Regulatory compliance covers FCC Part 15 and Canada ICES-003 Class A, plus CE. Network requires IEEE 802.3af PoE on the switch port — confirm your PoE switch has available Class 3 budget before deploying at scale. Overall dimensions are 3.63" × 2.65" × 0.90" — tight enough to tuck behind most ceiling speaker assemblies. For installation specifics, refer to the manufacturer datasheet available at the Viking Electronics product page.
