Overview

The VCAM-1IR is a compact analog color camera designed for use with external IR illuminators — deploy it wherever active infrared lighting is already part of the installation design and a discreet, space-efficient camera head is required. At 640x480 resolution (30 fps) from a 1/4" color CMOS sensor, this is a composite NTSC video source intended for entry stations, small enclosures, and Viking intercom or door-monitoring applications where a clean analog video feed matters more than IP streaming. The compact body fits into a standard double-gang electrical box with minimum inside dimensions of 2.25" deep x 3.65" wide x 2.84" tall (Carlon BH234R or equivalent), making it practical for flush-mount installs in tight wall cavities.

Compatibility

The VCAM-1IR outputs a standard 1V P-P composite NTSC signal at 75 ohms, compatible with any analog DVR or video receiver expecting composite input. It is part of the Viking Electronics VCAM series alongside the VCAM-1 (no IR) and the VCAM-2 panel-integrated models (available in stainless and bronze single-gang finishes). Use it with Viking intercom panels and entry systems that accept a composite video input. Pairs with external IR illuminators — unlike the VCAM-1, this variant is built to operate alongside active IR sources, so the sensor is matched for IR-supplemented low-light scenes. Surface-mount box option: Carlon BH234R or equivalent double-gang enclosure.

Installation Notes

Runs up to 750 ft on RG59 or RG6 coaxial cable — sufficient for most single-building perimeter runs without a distribution amplifier. Power the camera at 12V DC; verify your power supply is sized for the run length and any additional devices on the same circuit. The 80° viewing angle suits corridor entries and doorways without requiring lens adjustment. Operating range is -40°F to 185°F (-40°C to 85°C), so outdoor enclosure mounting in extreme climates is viable provided the enclosure itself is rated for the environment. Minimum illumination is 0.025 LUX at F1.0 (50 IRE) — performance in total darkness depends entirely on the paired IR illuminator output and placement.
