Overview

The Viking Electronics VCAM-1 is a compact 420 TVL color composite video camera designed for covert or space-constrained installations — door-entry panels, intercom stations, and tight-mount enclosures where a full-size camera body won't fit. At 26mm × 24mm × 19mm and 13.4g, the VCAM-1 drops into applications where physical footprint is the primary constraint. The 1/4" CMOS sensor delivers 640 × 480 active pixels at 30 fps with 0.26 lux sensitivity — adequate for interior entry lighting without supplemental IR on the base model. Video output is 1V p-p composite NTSC over 75 Ohms, compatible with analog DVRs and analog-input video door systems. The 3.4mm pinhole lens yields a 70° field of view, covering a standard doorway or hallway approach without distortion at close range. Wire runs up to 750 ft are supported over standard coax — no repeater needed for typical in-building runs. Power input is 3.5–6V DC regulated at under 150mA; the kit includes a 12VDC adapter with wire connections to step down and regulate supply voltage on-site.

Compatibility

The VCAM-1 is a replacement and integration camera for Viking Electronics door entry and intercom products that accept a composite video input. It is the base (non-IR) variant; the VCAM-1IR adds infrared illumination for low-light or no-light scenes — specify that model if the installation point lacks reliable ambient lighting after dark. The composite NTSC output integrates with any analog video recording or monitoring system accepting a 75-Ohm input, including standard DVR inputs on legacy and hybrid systems. It is not an IP camera and does not output ONVIF or RTSP streams — do not specify it for IP-only NVRs or VMS platforms without an analog encoder in the signal chain.

Installation Notes

The circuit board is potted for vibration resistance; tilt and swivel adjustment is built in, with stainless steel mounting hardware included. Power the camera from a regulated 3.5–6V DC source at the camera head — the included 12VDC adapter handles conversion from a standard supply. Operating range is –40°C to 85°C (–40°F to 185°F), making it suitable for unheated vestibules and exterior-adjacent enclosures where temperature swings are severe. Keep wire runs within 750 ft on 75-Ohm coax; beyond that, signal loss at 420 TVL becomes visible. Humidity tolerance is 5–95% non-condensing — sealed enclosures with condensation risk need a rated housing.
