Overview
The VCAM-2-BN is Viking Electronics' oil rubbed bronze finish version of the Viking Electronics surveillance line, delivering a 1/4-inch color CMOS camera pre-integrated into a single-gang faceplate for door and gate entry applications. It resolves the common problem of housing a video camera at an entry point without exposed conduit or an out-of-place industrial enclosure — the single-gang form factor drops into a standard electrical box and blends with architectural hardware. The camera captures 640×480 at 30 fps with an 80-degree viewing angle, sufficient for face recognition at a typical door station distance. Weather resistance is handled through a faceplate gasket, sealed camera lens, and an epoxy-potted circuit board, earning an IP66 rating that keeps out driving rain and dust without requiring a separate housing. The VCAM-2-BN operates across -40°F to 185°F, covering unheated entry vestibules, northern climates, and hot rooftop gate installations equally. Stainless steel camera mounting hardware is used throughout.
Compatibility
Designed for integration with Viking Electronics door entry and intercom systems that accept composite video input. Video transmission runs up to 750 ft over RG59 or RG6 coax with power and audio carried on CAT5; alternatively, a single CAT5e run handles video, power, and audio up to 150 ft — practical for most in-building entry point runs. Power input is 12V DC. The brushed stainless steel finish version of the same camera is the VCAM-2-SS, sharing identical electrical and mechanical specs. The optional VE-3x5 surface mount adapter converts the unit from flush-to-single-gang-box installation to surface mount where recessed wiring is not possible. Replacement faceplate (bronze finish only) is available as PNL-VCAM-2-BN for field swaps without replacing the full camera assembly.
Installation Notes
The faceplate dimensions are 4.875″ × 3.125″ × 1.0″ (124mm × 79mm × 25mm) — verify the rough-in box depth before ordering. Flush mount requires a standard single-gang electrical box; surface mount requires the optional VE-3x5 adapter, which is sold separately. Run RG59/RG6 for video-only runs where distance exceeds 150 ft, and keep CAT5e runs under 150 ft total for combined video-power-audio. Because the circuit board is epoxy-potted, field repairs are not feasible — stock a PNL-VCAM-2-BN faceplate as a service spare rather than the full VCAM-2-BN if budget allows. PoE switches are not applicable here; the unit requires a dedicated 12V DC power source at the head end or along the run.
