Overview
The Comnet NW2 is a hardened 802.11a/n point-to-multipoint wireless bridge designed for surveillance networks that need to span distances up to 2 km without running cable. The NW2 delivers 95 Mbps throughput across a 5 GHz band (5500–5700 MHz), with a 19 dBi integrated antenna and narrow 17-degree beam width — critical for maintaining signal strength over long distances and rejecting interference from adjacent access points. The unit operates on +24 VDC (350 mA via the included power injection module), making it straightforward to deploy at remote camera locations or repeater sites. It supports up to 15 client connections, suitable for multi-camera wireless backhaul in distributed surveillance architectures.
Compatibility
The NW2 integrates into any surveillance or network system that runs standard IP cameras, NVRs, or switches — compatibility is protocol-agnostic via its RJ-45 Ethernet port. It works with IP surveillance cameras, network video recorders, and industrial switches, provided the remote site has power and line-of-sight to the master unit. No special drivers or proprietary software required; configure the NW2 as a transparent Ethernet bridge or access point. It is compatible with standard PoE-powered devices on the far end, though the NW2 itself draws power from the supplied 24 VDC module.
Installation Notes
Install the NW2 with clear line-of-sight between master and remote unit — trees, buildings, and terrain obstruction will degrade range below the 2 km maximum. The 17-degree beam width means precise antenna aiming is essential; use the mounting assembly to orient the integrated antenna toward the partner unit. Operating temperature range is −40 °C to +75 °C, supporting outdoor deployment in cold climates. Relative humidity tolerance is 5–95% non-condensing, suitable for warehouse, dock, and outdoor perimeter installations. MTBF exceeds 100,000 hours. The unit supports 10, 20, and 40 MHz bandwidth channels — choose 20 MHz for most surveillance backhaul to balance throughput and interference resistance. WPA2 encryption is active by default; configure the pre-shared key on both ends. ETSI certification confirms compliance for European frequency allocations.
