Overview

The R1V83A is a purpose-built 1U rack appliance that ships ClearPass Policy Manager pre-loaded on an HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen10 chassis. It handles up to 10,000 concurrent AAA sessions, making it the right fit for mid-to-large enterprise deployments where NAC policy enforcement needs dedicated hardware rather than a shared VM. The Xeon Gold 5118 (12 cores, 2.3 GHz) paired with 16 GB RAM provides enough headroom for real-time policy decisions across wired, wireless, and VPN clients simultaneously. Dual SATA HDDs in RAID-1 protect the ClearPass configuration and log database against a single-drive failure without adding SSD cost — acceptable for write patterns typical of AAA/policy workloads. HPE iLO Advanced is included, so out-of-band management over IPMI is available from day one without an add-on license.

Compatibility

The R1V83A runs HPE Aruba ClearPass Policy Manager and integrates with the broader Aruba network access control ecosystem — including ClearPass Guest, OnGuard, and Insight modules licensed separately.
