Description

HPE P48895-B21 8SFF U.3 Tri-Mode Backplane Kit for DL360 Gen11

Overview

The HPE P48895-B21 is a small-form-factor backplane expansion kit designed for the HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen11 server. It adds a single x1 U.3 Tri-Mode backplane bay, enabling the chassis to support U.3 NVMe, SAS, and SATA drives within the same 8SFF drive cage — a practical upgrade when you need to mix storage protocols across a dense 1U footprint without adding an external enclosure. If you're expanding storage capacity on an existing DL360 Gen11 deployment or configuring a new build with mixed-media requirements, P48895-B21 closes the gap between the base chassis configuration and a fully populated, protocol-flexible storage bay.

Compatibility

The P48895-B21 is engineered specifically for the HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen11 platform. It targets the 8SFF (Small Form Factor) drive bay configuration — confirm your chassis is an 8SFF variant before ordering, as the DL360 Gen11 also ships in LFF (Large Form Factor) configurations that require different backplane kits. The Tri-Mode design supports U.3 NVMe (PCIe), SAS, and SATA devices simultaneously within the same backplane, so you can mix drive types without protocol adapters. Verify your Gen11 system board and storage controller (such as an HPE Smart Array controller with Tri-Mode support) are both configured to handle the U.3 signaling path — a Tri-Mode backplane alone does not enable NVMe if the controller or cable path does not support it.

Installation Notes

The kit ships at 1.20 lb and measures 21.00 x 9.90 x 2.60 in, sized for tool-assisted installation within the DL360 Gen11 chassis bay. As with all server storage backplane kits, power down and de-energize the system before installation. Confirm cable routing to the system board or storage controller supports U.3 Tri-Mode signaling — using a standard SAS cable on a U.3 port will limit the backplane to SAS/SATA only. No additional software configuration is required beyond enabling NVMe or mixed-mode settings in the server's BIOS/UEFI and storage controller utility post-installation.
