Honeywell 5869 Wireless Hold-Up Switch Transmitter
Overview
The Honeywell 5869 is a UL-listed wireless hold-up switch transmitter operating on the 345 MHz frequency band. It is designed for covert under-counter or money drawer mounting, providing a finger-operated silent alarm trigger for commercial robbery and duress situations. The unit requires a key to reset after activation, preventing accidental re-arming.
Deployment scenarios
The 5869 is deployed in retail point-of-sale stations, bank teller positions, jewelry counters, and any commercial location requiring UL-listed hold-up protection. Its slim profile allows concealed mounting beneath counters or inside cash drawer areas where employees can discreetly activate it without alerting an intruder.
Security features
The unit includes both cover and wall tamper switches. Key-reset operation ensures the alarm cannot be silenced without authorized personnel. The wireless signal is transmitted on the 5800-series 345 MHz protocol, compatible with all Honeywell panels supporting this frequency.
Installation notes
Dimensions are 1-15/16" W x 5-15/16" H x 1-3/16" D (50 mm x 150 mm x 30 mm). Power is supplied by a 3 V lithium battery. Operating temperature range is 32 F to 122 F (0 C to 50 C). Mount the unit where it can be activated without visual detection by an intruder but remains accessible to trained staff.

The 5869 is one of the few wireless hold-up switches that carries UL commercial hold-up listing, which is required by many insurance carriers and local codes for retail and banking installations. I have installed these in bank branches and retail chains where wired hold-up buttons were impractical to retrofit.
Technical Highlights:
- UL commercial listing: Meets UL requirements for commercial hold-up alarm installations
- Key reset: Prevents unauthorized reset and ensures proper incident documentation before clearing the alarm
Deployment Considerations:
- Conduct regular staff training on activation procedures and ensure all employees know the location and operation of the switch
- Coordinate with the monitoring station to verify the hold-up zone programming triggers the correct response protocol
Always test the unit with the monitoring station after installation to confirm the correct signal and response protocol. The key-reset feature is essential for maintaining chain-of-custody documentation during incident response.
