Honeywell 5811 Wireless Thin Door/Window Contact
Overview
The Honeywell 5811 is an ultra-thin wireless door and window contact operating on the 345 MHz frequency band. At just 5/16" (8 mm) thick, it is one of the slimmest wireless contacts available, designed for installations where a low-profile sensor is required on narrow door frames, casement windows, or aluminum storefront frames.
Deployment scenarios
The 5811 excels in retrofit and aesthetic-sensitive installations. Its minimal profile allows it to be mounted on surfaces that cannot accommodate a standard-size transmitter. Common applications include high-end residential entry doors, commercial glass storefronts, and historic buildings where visible security hardware must be minimized.
Detection and specifications
The built-in reed switch monitors a single zone with a 0.75" (19 mm) make distance for the supplied magnet. A case tamper switch provides tamper protection. Dimensions are 2-1/8" H x 1-3/16" W x 5/16" D (54 mm x 30 mm x 8 mm). Operating temperature range is 32 F to 122 F (0 C to 50 C).
Power and installation
The unit is powered by a supplied 3 V lithium battery. Mounting options include hardware screws or double-sided adhesive tape. The 5811 is compatible with all Honeywell panels supporting the 5800-series wireless protocol.

The 5811 solves a specific problem: fitting a wireless contact on a narrow frame. I have used these on aluminum storefront doors and slim casement windows where no other transmitter would fit without being obtrusive.
Technical Highlights:
- Ultra-thin profile: 5/16 inch thickness fits on narrow frames where standard contacts cannot mount
- Flexible mounting: Hardware screws or adhesive tape accommodate a wide range of surfaces
Deployment Considerations:
- The 0.75 inch magnet gap is tighter than standard contacts so verify alignment during installation
- For doors requiring an external wired contact loop, use the 5816WMWH instead since the 5811 is reed-switch only
Keep in mind this is a single-zone contact with no external loop input. If you need to monitor an additional device on the same transmitter, select the 5816WMWH or 5817CB instead.
