HID 20NKS-00-004FGR Signo 20 Standard Reader
Overview
The HID 20NKS-00-004FGR is a proximity and keypad reader from HID's Signo 20 family — engineered for enterprise access control systems where you need to support multiple credential formats across a single reader footprint. This unit handles 125 kHz proximity cards, NFC/13.56 MHz smart cards (DESFire, iCLASS, MIFARE, HID proprietary), and keypad entry in a compact black-and-silver form factor. OSDP v2 protocol ensures vendor-neutral communication with any certified access control panel, eliminating lock-in to proprietary wiegand readers. Surface-mount installation (pigtail card profile connection) makes retrofit into existing door frames straightforward without rewiring strike logic.
Compatibility
Works with any OSDP v2-capable access control panel or panel interface module — including panels from Salto, Genetec, Johnson Controls, Tyco, and generic OSDP hosts. Accepts DESFire, iCLASS, MIFARE classic/plus, HID proximity, SEOS, and NFC credentials on the 13.56 MHz channel; legacy 125 kHz proximity cards via the dual-frequency antenna. The 32-bit MSB (Most Significant Byte) data format is standard across HID Signo readers, so it pairs directly with Signo control units and third-party OSDP implementations without protocol translation. LED and flash outputs are factory-disabled (configurable via panel or firmware update if needed). Pigtail connection eliminates the need for terminal block wiring — critical if your door frame has tight conduit runs or if you're installing in retrofit scenarios with limited junction box space.
Installation Notes
Mount via surface-install bracket (included hardware assumed from standard HID Signo 20 kit). Pigtail connection carries power, ground, and data — verify your OSDP panel supplies adequate current for simultaneous activation of both RF (13.56 MHz + 125 kHz antenna energizing) and keypad backlighting. No external power supply required if panel delivers nominal PoE. Recalibration of read range is automatic via HID's surface detection system — no manual tuning needed for mount depth or material interference. Test proximity and NFC read distance (typically 3–5 inches for proximity, 2–3 inches for NFC smart cards) before sealing door frames; environmental metal (steel frames, reinforced door edge) can reduce range by 20–30%.
