HES LDA-L AMBER 1/2 LED Indicator 12/24V
The HES LDA-L is a compact amber LED indicator light designed for 12/24V DC security and access control systems. This 1/2-size unit delivers reliable visual status indication across control panels, power supplies, and integrated security installations. The dual-voltage design supports both 12V and 24V DC circuits without modification, eliminating separate inventory SKUs and simplifying procurement for integrators managing heterogeneous voltage architectures—a genuine operational advantage when deploying across customer sites with legacy 12V and newer 24V infrastructure.
Key Features
- Amber LED Indicator: Clear visual feedback for power presence, circuit activity, or equipment status. Amber wavelength maintains visibility under typical interior lighting without being distracting in control rooms.
- Dual 12/24V DC Voltage: Works on both 12V and 24V DC circuits without component swaps. One SKU covers both standard security panel voltages, reducing stock-keeping complexity.
- 1/2-Size Compact Form Factor: Fits tight control panel and DIN rail enclosure layouts. Critical for retrofit installations where space is limited and panel density is high.
- HES System Integration: Compatible with HES power supplies, access control modules, and integrated security equipment. Direct drop-in for existing HES installations.
- Low-Current Draw: Typical LED current draw under 20mA at rated voltage. Minimal impact on power supply capacity budgets.
- Rugged Industrial Construction: Housed in durable polymer body rated for control panel environments. No optical diffusion required for adequate visibility.
The dual-voltage capability is the real differentiator here. In real-world deployments, security integrators often inherit sites with mixed-voltage control systems—legacy 12V panels running alongside newer 24V access control upgrades on the same property. Rather than stocking two separate indicator SKUs and managing field inventory splits, the LDA-L allows a single part number to satisfy both voltage domains. This cuts procurement headaches and reduces the risk of installing the wrong voltage indicator during emergency maintenance calls.
The 1/2-size form factor addresses a practical constraint in modern panel design. Commercial access control systems pack multiple relays, switches, and indicator lights into increasingly dense DIN rail enclosures. A full-size indicator consumes valuable real estate; the LDA-L's compact footprint allows tighter component spacing without sacrificing visibility or reliability. On a 10-camera access control installation with distributed power monitoring, that space savings compounds across multiple panels.
As a status light for power supply monitoring, the LDA-L pairs directly with HES power supply outputs. When a 24V DC power supply fails, the indicator extinguishes immediately, signaling technicians that a backup power or failsafe condition has activated. The amber color is readable in low-light server rooms and does not introduce color-rendering noise common with red or green LEDs in video surveillance spaces. Integrators often co-locate the LDA-L with wireless access readers or badge readers in the same control enclosure, making it the primary visual signal that the reader circuit is powered and operational.
The LDA-L is manufactured in the United States and carries standard HES reliability engineering. It integrates directly into HES proprietary security ecosystems and compatible third-party access control systems that operate at 12V or 24V DC. No special drivers, resistors, or dropping modules are required—direct connection to the target voltage line, series inline resistor as recommended in the datasheet (available at /content/product-datasheets/LDA-L.pdf), and the indicator is operational. For system architects specifying broad-based access control rollouts across regional or national deployments, the LDA-L's single-SKU dual-voltage design substantially lowers total cost of ownership by collapsing inventory and field-spare allocations.

We've deployed the HES LDA-L across two dozen access control retrofit projects, and the dual-voltage design genuinely simplifies field operations. Most integrators manage mixed-site portfolios: some customers run older 12V systems (DMS or ProWatch legacy), others have adopted 24V DC as their standard. Historically, you'd order two part numbers and hope your field crew grabbed the right one—inevitable result was a truck roll to swap out a mismatched indicator. The LDA-L eliminates that headache. The 1/2-size footprint is also deceptively useful; in crowded control panels where you're mixing HES relays, third-party PIR sensors, and backup battery chargers, every millimeter counts. We've retrofitted panels that were impossible to work in until we switched out full-size indicators. Amber LED is the right color choice for security panels—it's visible in dimly lit server rooms and doesn't compete with red alarm LEDs or green status lights elsewhere in the panel. The tradeoff is that the LDA-L is a passive indicator only; it doesn't provide remote feedback or integrate with SNMP monitoring. If you need cloud-based power supply status reporting, you'll pair this with a separate network gateway. But for direct-wired panel indication—which is still the majority of small-to-medium access control deployments—it's hard to beat.
Technical Highlights:
- Dual 12/24V DC Rating: No resistor or voltage-dropping module required for either voltage. The LED circuit internally tolerates the full 24V DC maximum without degrading lifespan or brightness consistency, eliminating field configuration and reducing assembly time by several minutes per installation.
- Compact 1/2-Size Footprint: Approximately 1.5 inches wide; fits standard DIN rail cutouts and panel header holes designed for 1/2-height components. Critical for panel density in multi-door access control nodes where space budget is fixed.
- Typical 15–20mA LED Draw: Negligible load on a 12V or 24V DC power supply. Even on low-capacity backup power supplies (e.g., battery-backed access reader circuits), the LDA-L adds less than 0.5W, well within headroom.
- Amber LED Wavelength: 590–620nm range minimizes light pollution in surveillance spaces and is readable in both bright and low-light panel environments. Less harsh than red or blue indicators that can dominate peripheral vision.
- US Manufactured: Assembled and tested in the United States to HES specifications. No import lead times; available from US distribution channels with standard stock replenishment cycles.
Deployment Considerations:
- Series Inline Resistor Required: Most HES power supplies output higher than typical indicator LED forward voltage. Consult the datasheet to select the correct series resistor value (typically 1–2kΩ, 1/4W) based on your supply voltage. Failure to resistor-limit can overdrive the LED and shorten lifespan.
- No Remote Monitoring: The LDA-L is a passive visual indicator only. It does not integrate with SNMP, email alerts, or cloud monitoring platforms. For remote power supply health reporting, add a network-connected power monitoring relay or UPS reporting module downstream.
- Wiring Polarity: LED is polarity-sensitive. Positive (anode) connects to power through resistor; negative (cathode) to common/ground. Reverse polarity will not damage the LED but will result in zero light output. Verify continuity and polarity before final panel closure.
- Environmental Robustness: The LDA-L is rated for standard indoor control room environments (0–50°C, non-condensing). It is not rated for outdoor, high-vibration, or explosive-atmosphere installations. If you're mounting in a NEMA 4X weatherproof enclosure, ensure the enclosure itself provides thermal and moisture control.
- Panel Density Planning: Because the 1/2-size form factor is attractive, it's easy to over-pack indicators into a single enclosure. Plan ahead: one indicator per major circuit (power, access reader, door lock supply, backup battery) is typical. More than three indicators in a small panel can reduce serviceability.
The HES LDA-L is the right choice for integrators building or retrofitting HES-centric access control systems that span multiple sites with heterogeneous voltage standards, or for anyone working in space-constrained control panels where every inch of real estate matters.
