Overview
The Geovision GV-LX4C3V is a four-channel mobile video recorder engineered for vehicle-mounted surveillance — buses, vans, mobile command centers — where compact footprint and vibration tolerance are non-negotiable. It captures real-time video from four cameras simultaneously, recording at up to 30 fps per channel at 704×480 (NTSC) or 704×576 (PAL). The dual-stream architecture lets you set independent codec and resolution per channel: record high-quality H.264 for storage while streaming lower-bandwidth MJPEG to a central system during limited connectivity. Anti-Vibration ACC engineering means it survives the shock and vibration typical of mobile platforms without data corruption or hardware drift.
Recording and Compression
Dual H.264 and MJPEG codec support eliminates the tradeoff between storage efficiency and live-view responsiveness. H.264 compression cuts file size roughly in half compared to raw motion JPEG — meaningful when you're constrained to a single internal drive in a moving vehicle. Frame rate and resolution are independently adjustable per channel, so you can dedicate higher bitrate to the door-facing camera and lower it on interior monitors. VGA output (1280×1024) displays video on three separate monitor types simultaneously — TV, VGA monitor, and spot monitor — without external splitters.
Storage and Connectivity
Accepts 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch SATA HDDs (converter required for 2.5-inch drives). External USB mass storage and DVD-RW backup provide redundancy for critical footage. Ethernet is 10/100 Mbps (RJ-45); optional 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi card supports mobile broadband (HSDPA, UMTS, EDGE, EVDO) for remote playback on Android smartphones and iPhones. GPS input (PS/2 connector) overlays vehicle speed and location on recordings in real time — essential for fleet accountability and incident reconstruction.
Alarm and Event Management
Four alarm inputs and one output handle door sensors, collision triggers, or panic buttons. Recording modes include continuous, motion detection, schedule-based, and input-triggered. Buzzer alerts on video loss, motion events, triggered inputs, and disk full conditions. Event-based video retrieval speeds investigation — pull footage by date, time, or specific trigger rather than scrubbing through hours of idle recording.
