Geovision GV-APOE1612 16-Port Gigabit PoE Switch
Overview
The GV-APOE1612 is a 16-port managed gigabit PoE+ switch purpose-built for medium-to-large IP camera deployments where you need to consolidate power and data onto a single infrastructure run. It delivers 250W of total PoE budget across 16 ports, each capable of 10/100/1000 Mbps throughput — enough to support roughly 15–20 PoE+ cameras depending on power draw and uplink bandwidth. The key deployment benefit: one cable per camera (Ethernet carries both signal and power) eliminates the need for separate power runs to remote locations, cutting installation labor and conduit requirements significantly. Operates from 0°C to 40°C, fits a standard 19-inch rack, and weighs 5.64 lb — designed for telecom closets, electrical rooms, or outdoor weatherproof enclosures in security infrastructure environments.
Compatibility
The GV-APOE1612 supports any IEEE 802.3af/at-compliant PoE device: IP cameras (Geovision GV-series, Axis, Hikvision, Bosch, and most OEM models), wireless access points, IP phones, and door controllers. It includes ONVIF Discover and ONVIF Server capability, enabling seamless integration with ONVIF-compatible video management systems (Milestone Xprotect, Genetec Security Center, etc.). The 4-port SFP uplink and 2-port combo uplink allow backbone connection to managed network infrastructure without consuming precious gigabit ports. PoE extends to 250 meters (820 ft) at 10 Mbps — useful for remote camera sheds or perimeter installations where standard PoE (100m) falls short.
Installation Notes
Mount in a standard 19-inch rack using the included kit or on a shelf underneath a desk. All 16 ports are active PoE+ by default — no configuration needed to begin powering devices, though you'll want to enable port security and VLAN segmentation in the web management interface to isolate camera traffic from corporate networks. The switch includes a 1-port console (non-functional per datasheet) and supports TACACS+/RADIUS for enterprise authentication. Operating temperature range of 0°C–40°C means outdoor-mounted cabinets in cold climates may require supplemental heating; storage temperature extends to −40°C to 70°C for transport and staging. Bandwidth control, storm control, and RSTP (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol) prevent broadcast storms and redundant loop failures — critical features when deploying dozens of cameras on a single switch.
