Geovision GV-IPDECO-140 IP Decoder Box
Overview
The Geovision GV-IPDECO-140 is a compact decoder box designed to bridge IP camera systems with display, recording, or signal distribution infrastructure. This unit accepts network video streams from compatible Geovision IP cameras and converts them for integration into mixed surveillance architectures—particularly useful when legacy display hardware, analog-output recorders, or third-party VMS platforms need to consume live or recorded video from an IP-based source. The GV-IPDECO-140 supports ONVIF, meaning it can work with IP cameras and management software beyond the Geovision family, provided they adhere to standard ONVIF protocols.
Compatibility
The GV-IPDECO-140 integrates with Geovision IP camera systems and ONVIF-compliant surveillance networks. It accepts compressed video streams encoded in H.265 or H.264—the two dominant IP video codecs in professional surveillance—so it can decode feeds from any ONVIF-capable camera without requiring proprietary firmware or drivers. This compatibility extends to third-party NVR platforms and video management software that support ONVIF Profile S or T. Verify ONVIF Profile support on both your camera and VMS before deployment if you are mixing vendors.
Installation Notes
The GV-IPDECO-140 draws power from standard PoE (802.3af), eliminating the need for a separate DC adapter in most installations—a significant labor and cabling advantage in dense surveillance deployments. PoE power is sufficient because the decoder box is a passive receive-and-convert device; it does not perform real-time analytics, motion detection, or GPU-intensive encoding. Mount the unit near your display monitor, NVR, or signal distribution hub to minimize cable runs. Ensure your network switch or injector supplies genuine 802.3af PoE; some budget switches deliver inconsistent power, which can cause intermittent video dropout on edge devices.
