Geovision GV-GDR4900 Thermal IP Security Reader
Overview
The GV-GDR4900 is a thermal imaging IP reader built for fixed perimeter security and access control installations. It operates on PoE (802.3af) power, eliminating the need for separate electrical runs on perimeter walls or fence lines — a significant advantage in retrofits where power infrastructure is already constrained. The thermal sensor delivers consistent detection regardless of ambient lighting or fog, making it reliable for 24/7 monitoring in industrial yards, critical facility perimeters, and high-security checkpoints where visual cameras alone won't cut it.
The unit compresses thermal imagery using H.265, which reduces bandwidth consumption compared to H.264 — meaningful when thermal streams run alongside standard IP cameras on bandwidth-limited links. IP67 enclosure rating handles direct spray and dust without degradation; IK10 impact resistance resists deliberate vandalism, important for exposed mounting on poles or at unattended fence gates.
Compatibility
The GV-GDR4900 integrates with Geovision NVR systems and ONVIF-compatible VMS platforms (Milestone, Genetec, and equivalent third-party systems that support ONVIF Profile S feeds). It mounts to walls, poles, corners, and rack enclosures, so installation flexibility matches most existing infrastructure layouts. Confirm ONVIF Profile S support in your target VMS before deployment — not all ONVIF implementations handle thermal streams identically.
Installation Notes
Deploy the GV-GDR4900 in outdoor and harsh-environment settings without concern for water ingress or impact damage; however, avoid direct submersion or high-pressure wash scenarios — IP67 is splash and dust resistant, not submersion rated. Thermal imagers benefit from clear line-of-sight and minimal reflective surfaces (glazed windows, metal sheeting) in the field of view. Verify PoE switch has sufficient budget for this device plus any concurrent thermal or high-bitrate feeds on the same run.
